Accessibility Statements Overview
An accessibility statement explains your commitment to making your website usable for everyone, including people with disabilities. It helps users understand what accessibility standards you aim to meet, provides a way to report issues, and demonstrates good-faith efforts toward inclusivity and compliance. Luckily, Patrol makes it easy to add an accessibility statement to your website.
Set-Up Your Accessibility Statement
Navigate to the Accessibility Statement tab found on the left side of your screen.
Under Page Details confirm that the Page Title is using language that you approve of. Patrol recommends simply using Accessibility Statement, but you can update to use different language if preferred.
Review the pre-generated statement found within the Content section of the page. Make any necessary changes to ensure the statement fits your brand’s tone, and then click the Create Page button (this button may be called Save Changes if you have previously generated an accessibility statement.)
Please be sure to review and update the email address found in the statement before saving.
[Optional] Use the Open in Shopify Page Editor button to view and edit the newly created page directly in your Shopify editor.
Next we will be adding the Accessibility Statement to your store’s navigation. Click the Open Shopify Menu Editor button to start this process.
We recommend adding the statement to your footer menu, next to your privacy policies.
Find your live Footer Menu within the Menus section of your Shopify Content page. Double click the footer menu to edit it.
Use the Add menu item option to create a new menu item.
Click the Search or paste link box to find your newly created accessibility statement. You can find the statement under the Online Store > Pages > Accessibility Statement
If the label is not auto generated when selecting the accessibility statement, please name the label of this item the same as the Page Title referenced in step 2. Patrol recommends naming the label Accessibility Statement.
Click Save and publish the statement to the footer of your website!
