Visual Fixes

Visual Fixes are accessibility issues that could visually affect your website when resolved. These fixes require your input to implement. 

  1. Begin by navigating to the Visual Fixes subsection of the Pending Actions section of your Patrol Dashboard. 

  2. Click Get Started to begin reviewing the Visual Fixes. On this page you will see all visual issues with pending fixes available. Click into the specific visual issue you would like to address.

    • A page will load with all the unique violations, and a count of how many elements are impacted by that violation. It is common to have the same violation be repeated across multiple pages, so you may see only a few unique violations despite a high number of impacted elements.

  3. Select the Open in Preview button to jump to a preview of a page on your website where the affected element exists. 

Next, click the Patrol Preview button in the bottom left corner of your screen. This will bring up the Patrol overlay to help you view exactly where the affected element exists on the webpage

  • Some violations may be flagged as appearing off screen, such as pop-ups with affected elements. Patrol’s overlay is currently unable to highlight these violations, but we hope to simplify the process in identifying which off screen elements are impacted in the future. 

Color Contrast

  1. [Optional] If you are reviewing a Color Contrast violation, you will be able to select new colors within the Patrol overlay to ensure your brand achieves AA or AAA standards. You can also use the Colors from your store dropdown to view and select a color combination already on your website that meets accessibility standards.

    When you click Save Changes, it will then save the selected colors on the Visual Fixes page, making it simple for your team to review the new colors and update them directly on your website.

    • Please note, given the visual nature of these changes, Patrol does not push the changes live to your website when you click save changes. We instead store the hex codes of the new color combinations in the visual fixes pages so whoever manages your website can quickly identify what the new color combinations are and swiftly update the affected elements. 

  2. Once you have resolved the affected element manually, use the Mark as Fixed button to mark the violation as resolved within Patrol. If the violation is incorrectly marked as fixed, our system will reflag it after the next scan, ensuring that you are able to resolve it at a later date.
